Dear all
We are proud to invite you to attend our regional screening of ‘Unseen Unheard: the untold breast cancer stories of Black Women in the UK’; a play commissioned and funded by Gilead Sciences Ltd. The play will be screened at The Gate, Keppoch St, Cardiffon 5 June at 7pm.
‘Unseen Unheard: The untold breast cancer stories of Black Women in the UK’ is based on the stories of six women from Black Women Rising, a pioneering cancer support project founded by The Leanne Pero Foundation, that seeks to address the inequalities faced by Black women undergoing cancer treatment. Set in real time on a normal evening, six women, played by actors, gather to unravel their shared experiences of the abnormality that Black women experience through their diagnosis. As one would expect, the women invite us into their world with an honest and candid insight that combines honesty and humour. There is a real-world objective to these new screenings of the play: changing habits that will lead to saving lives.
Written by Naomi Denny and directed by Simon Frederick and Suzann McLean, the Play was originally presented by Theatre Peckham at a sell-out four-show run in London in Spring 2023.
The event will also feature a live multi-disciplinary panel discussion, facilitated by Leanne Pero MBE, award-winning community champion and founder and CEO of Black Women Rising. The panel, which will include healthcare professional and patient representation, will discuss the issues raised in the play and what needs to change in the future. There will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and share their own thoughts and experiences.
With a focus on broad access, tickets to the screening are free. You can secure tickets for yourself and your colleagues here: https://www.trybooking.com/uk/eventlist/unseenunheard and find out more about Black Women Rising here: https://www.blackwomenrisinguk.org.
If you have any questions about the event, please do not hesitate to contact us. We very much look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Laura
